Top 5 performances for Alabama football in the NFL Week 9

Perhaps surprisingly, it was the quarterback position that dominated the headlines for former Alabama football players in the NFL in Week 9.

A former Alabama football player scored a touchdown for the 93rd straight week in the NFL, and a couple of former running backs made some NFL history, but it was three former Tide quarterbacks who stole the show on Sunday.

It was another impressive week for former Alabama players in the NFL, and it might be surprising to some to see quarterbacks leading the way. Jalen Hurts entered the season under some scrutiny in Philadelphia, Tua Tagovailoa's future was up in the air following another concussion in Week 2, and Bryce Young was benched following a poor start to the season.

All three of those guys made the list this week with strong performances. Who else joined them?

Top 5 Alabama football performances in the NFL Week 9

5. Jahmyr Gibbs

It was a relatively quiet day for Jahmyr Gibbs' standards. He ran for 65 yards on 11 carries and scored a touchdown in Detroit's win over Green Bay to take control of the NFC North. But it was the seventh straight game where Gibbs had more than five yards-per-carry with a 10-carry minimum, which is an NFL record.

Gibbs now leads the league in yards-per-carry at 6.4 He's 8th in the NFL in rushing despite having 30 fewer carries than any other player in the Top 10.

4. Bryce Young

Bryce Young started for the second straight week for the Panthers, and earned just the third win of his NFL career. Young led the Panthers to a come-from-behind win over the divisional rival New Orleans Saints, 23-22.

Young completed 16-of-26 passes for 171 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The interception should not have been as it was on a throw that was an absolute dime.

The Panthers have yet to decide whether Young will start going forward, but he has played well two weeks in a row and looks to be having fun again.

3. Derrick Henry

Another Sunday, more NFL history for Derrick Henry. With a first quarter touchdown run, Henry became just the 10th player in NFL history to score 100 career rushing touchdowns. Henry added another touchdown run later in the game, which moved him past Shaun Alexander and into 8th place all-time for career rushing touchdowns.

Henry is taking down records every week and is doing what seemed impossible for a running back with his mileage. He ran for 106 yards on 23 carries and added two touchdowns in the Ravens' blowout win over the Broncos, strengthening his grip on the rushing title.

Henry is over 1000 yards rushing in just nine games and currently leads the NFL in rushing attempts, yards, rushing touchdowns, scrimmage yards, and scrimmage touchdowns. It's good to be King.

2. Tua Tagovailoa

The Dolphins are now 0-2 since Tua Tagovailoa's return from injury and are sitting at 2-6 with their playoff hopes on life support. But Tua was fantastic on Sunday in a tough road environment against the Buffalo Bills.

Tua completed 25-of-28 passes for 231 yards and a pair of touchdown tosses. His 89.2% completion percentage is the best of his career. He led the Dolphins down the field, trailing by seven, to a game-tying touchdown, finding Jaylen Waddle to tie the game.

Unfortunately, the Dolphins defense couldn't hold and Buffalo got in field goal range and hit a 61-yard field goal as time expired to give the Bills the win.

1. Jalen Hurts

For the second straight week, Jalen Hurts takes the top spot. He was brilliant again as the Eagles knocked off the Jaguars to keep pace with the Commanders in the NFC East.

Hurts was 18/24 passing for 230 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 67 yards adding another touchdown on the ground.

Hurts can share this one with DeVonta Smith, who finished with 87 yards on four catches and the ridiculous one-handed touchdown snag above on a 3rd-and-22 play that was more than likely the difference in the game.
