Four-star tight end Colt Lumpris is one of Alabama’s four commits in the 2027 class, but the 6-foot-6, 225-pound New Jersey native does not appear to be entirely locked in with the Crimson Tide, with official visit season coming up this spring and summer.
Lumpris has previously told Touchdown Alabama that he’s “pretty locked in with Alabama,” but there are plenty of opportunities for that to change with multiple official visits scheduled. Lumpris will be in Tuscaloosa on May 29-31, for what is shaping up to be a major recruiting weekend for Kalen DeBoer, but he’s also heading to Penn State on June 19-21.
According to BamaOnLine’s Andrew Bone, Lumpris has three official visits already set with more on the way, and though he’s one of the Tide’s earliest commits in the 2027 cycle, it’s hard not to have him on flip watch heading into his senior year.

Lumpris spoke with BOL after a recent call with @CoachROwens, what more he needs to learn from the Crimson Tide's new tight ends coach, and other contenders.

4-star tight end Colt Lumpris adding to his list of official visits
Lumpris committed to Alabama when Bryan Ellis was DeBoer’s tight ends coach. Since his commitment, Nick Sheridan has left to become the offensive coordinator at Michigan State, Ellis has been promoted to QB coach, and Richard Owens has been hired away from Louisville to serve as Alabama’s TE coach.
Owens most recently served on Jeff Brohm’s staff as an offensive line coach, so it’s reasonable to assume that he will favor more well-rounded tight ends who are factors in the blocking game. Though he has tremendous size at 6-foot-6, Lumpris is essentially an oversized receiver for The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey.
Lumpris has the frame to add weight and could eventually develop into a serviceable blocker, or even an asset in the run game, but that will take multiple years of development, and there’s always a risk that when a player like Lumpris adds weight, they will lose the explosiveness that makes them special.
Lumpris and Owens have reportedly talked since Owens stepped into the role, but if Lumpris isn’t sold on the vision, then he could look to flip before putting pen to paper with the Tide. Penn State has a history of tight end development, and even though the Nittany Lions have transitioned from James Franklin to Matt Campbell, they could be a real threat to keep Lumpris much closer to home.
Lumpris has yet to announce his other official visits on his social media, but he’s received recent offers from Colorado and Florida, which re-offered him under new head coach Jon Sumrall. Lumpris is the 15th-ranked tight end in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports Composite, and the 279th-ranked player in the country.
