Trent McDuffie trade could have a major impact on Ty Simpson's NFL landing spot

One of Ty Simpson's most popular landing spots in NFL Mock Drafts appears to be off the board after a blockbuster NFL trade.

The Los Angeles Rams looked to be a dream landing spot for Alabama QB Ty Simpson. Armed with two first-round picks, an aging veteran in Matthew Stafford, and a QB-friendly offensive system, the Rams would position Simpson perfectly for NFL success.

But that landing spot is no longer realistic after a blockbuster trade on Wednesday.

The Rams acquired Kansas City Chiefs star CB Trent McDuffie for a package that included LA's second first-round pick (No. 29) in April's draft.

The Rams are in win now mode so a Ty Simpson pick no longer makes sense

The Rams are pushing all their chips to the middle of the table to try and make a Super Bowl run next season. While they still have the No. 13 overall pick, the McDuffie trade signals that selection will almost certainly be used on a player who can make an impact on the team next season.

That wouldn't be Simpson, barring an injury to Stafford. He seems like a perfect fit for the Rams, but Stafford is fresh off his first MVP and doesn't appear to show signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Perhaps the Rams knew that Simpson was unlikely to still be available by the time they picked at No. 29 anyway, and the plan all along was to find an impactful player for next season with the 13th pick.

Simpson lit it up at the NFL Combine, potentially pushing himself all the way into the Top 10. The Cleveland Browns are rumored to be interested in Simpson, and they hold picks No. 6 and 24 in the first round next month.

The Arizona Cardinals hold the 3rd pick and have the capital to potentially trade back into the first round to target Simpson. That became more of a possibility after the Cardinals announced their intentions to release former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray next week.

There are plenty of other options for Simpson still available, but the Rams were undoubtedly the best potential spot that would've given him the best possible chance of success.
