At the risk of oversimplifying due to a narrow perspective, the success of Alabama Football in the 2026 season will come down to two guys. Neither one is a defensive player, nor is either one a quarterback. They are in the same position group, and the count may be three instead of two.
Keeping a 'simple' theme, Alabama in the 2026 season will soar or stumble based upon how well Jackson Lloyd and William Sanders perform. A third name at right tackle could be added, and that player is likely to be Jayvin James. If James does not pan out, Michael Carroll is expected to return to right tackle rather than right guard. Either Nick Brooks or Ethan Fields would then step into the starter role at right guard.
Alabama is boldly rolling the dice on Jackson Lloyd at left tackle. He was quickly designated as the starter during spring sessions. Teammates and coaches praise his potential and development. The value of William Sanders returning from injury has been a quieter story. Sanders also draws high praise from teammates. He missed all of the spring work recovering from a lower back injury. Sanders is expected to be 100% when Fall Camp begins.
Alabama's left-side duo may match high expectations. The Crimson Tide cannot afford for either of them to be a bust. And they can't just be good; they must be very good.
Alabama Football Schedule Advantage
The Alabama football schedule sets up for Lloyd and Sanders not having to be very good immediately. The new Kentucky staff is touting a more aggressive defense. Perhaps the Wildcats will become much improved, but that is unlikely to be a major factor in Game 2. Florida State has a couple of top defensive linemen. South Carolina probably has the SEC's best edge rusher in Dylan Stewart. But until the Georgia game, the Crimson Tide's offensive line will not face a top defensive front.
Alabama's early schedule gives new coach Adrian Klemm time for his offensive line to gel. Lloyd and Sanders can be a solid combination when Georgia visits the Crimson Tide in October.
