Ty Simpson has gotten off to a fast start as Alabama's starting quarterback. He waited his turn, and now he's taking full advantage of it. After an up-and-down performance in his first career start against Florida State, Simpson has been razor-sharp in the four games since.
Even the most ardent Simpson supporters didn't expect him to be this good, this fast.
Simpson's performance has him in the Heisman Trophy conversation, and now he's beginning to generate 1st round NFL Draft buzz.
In a new mock draft released by CBS Sports, Simpson was projected to go 24th overall to the Los Angeles Rams as the heir apparent to Matthew Stafford:

It's nice to see someone taking notice of the QB who is no longer flying under the radar, but at No. 24, he remains much lower than he should be.
There's not a QB in the country playing better right now. And Simpson's performance is the perfect storm for him in a QB draft class that has been considered weak. He's got a great chance to continue working his way up the board and potentially get himself in the No. 1 overall pick conversation.
Ty Simpson has plenty of marquee opportunities to continue improving his stock
The NFL Draft is probably the furthest thing from Simpson's mind at this moment in time. He's living in the moment and enjoying the fulfillment of his dream of being the starting quarterback at Alabama. But as an outside observer, it's hard not to be excited to see Simpson getting the recognition he so richly deserves.
He's an easy kid to root for, and Alabama's offense has been humming because of him. With Jam Miller's return sparking the run game last week against Vanderbilt, the Tide's offense has a chance to reach the next level.
It was already operating with ruthless efficiency thanks to Simpson and Alabama's talented wide receivers, but it could make a move toward unstoppable territory sooner rather than later.
It's hard not to be excited about the ceiling of this year's team. Alabama is getting better every week. That's a good thing because the schedule demands it.
Alabama will play a third straight ranked conference opponent this week in Columbia against Missouri. They'll face a fourth next week at home against Tennessee. A road trip to South Carolina will be the first unranked opponent since Wisconsin, and still far from an easy game. On the other side of the bye week are two more ranked opponents in Bryant-Denny: LSU and Oklahoma. That's not to mention the Iron Bowl on the road to finish the regular season.
If Simpson continues playing at a high level - against the gauntlet of games facing the Crimson Tide the rest of the way - his draft stock will continue to skyrocket.
