Ty Simpson didn't shy away from competition at the NFL Combine, making the high-risk, high-reward decision to throw in front of scouts in Indianapolis instead of waiting for his Pro Day at Alabama.
It appears to have paid major dividends.
With a strong throwing session on Saturday night, Simpson appears to have solidified his standing as the QB2 in the 2026 NFL Draft class behind Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, which should lock him into being a likely first-round pick in April.

Simpson looked well-prepared and was dialed in from his first throw. A lot of eyes were on him, and he shined in front of them all.
Ty Simpson did himself a lot of favors at the NFL Combine
Simpson had already made waves at the combine before even picking up a football. His impressive football acumen and recall were on full display on Friday. But there was never any question about his football mind.
Simpson is the son of a coach, and as well studied as any quarterback in the country. But after a hot start to his first season as Alabama's starting QB, Simpson put together some inconsistent tape down the stretch that threw up some red flags about his NFL prospects.
But he was dealing with a lot down the stretch, from being banged up to an illness that saw him drop a considerable amount of weight. He also had very little help from an Alabama offensive line that struggled to keep him upright.
His tape from the first half of the season was special, though. He was playing better than any quarterback in the country through October.
And while there are certainly some reasons for concern, particularly with his lack of experience as a starter, Simpson impressed enough at the NFL Combine that somebody will likely take a chance on him during the first round.
