There hasn't been a whole lot for Alabama baseball to smile about in 2026. The Crimson Tide entered the weekend on a four-game losing streak after getting swept by Kentucky in Lexington last weekend and then dropping a disheartening midweek matchup at South Alabama.
But none of that mattered on Friday night in the series opener against Florida. Because redshirt junior Tyler Fay accomplished something for Alabama that hadn't been done in 84 years.
In Alabama's 6-0 win over Florida, Fay threw a no-hitter on an absurd 132 pitches. It was the first solo, nine-inning no-hitter in Crimson Tide baseball history since 1942. It was the ninth no-hitter in the history of the program:

Tyler Fay threw Alabama's first solo nine-inning no-hitter in 84 years
Just getting a win over No. 18-ranked Florida this weekend felt improbable enough with how poorly the Crimson Tide had been playing. The pitching staff was a big part of that, and Fay, who has been Alabama's Friday night starter this season, entered the game against the Gators with a 5.34 ERA.
Calling his no-hitter against Florida improbable would be an understatement.
It's Alabama's first SEC win of the season and it comes in the most unexpected of ways. Fay completely shut down Florida, striking out 13 batters on his way to the no-hitter.
This could be the spark Rob Vaughn needed to get this season on track. There's still time for Alabama to rally and make a push, but it needed something concrete to hang its hat on. It got that from Fay, who delivered one of the single best performances in Alabama history.
Regardless of how the rest of the season goes for Alabama, or Fay in particular, this won't soon be forgotten. He writ his name in Crimson flame with a legendary outing that provided at least a momentary bright spot on an otherwise difficult season.
