Alabama entered Saturday night at 5-0, which allowed it to have a margin for error heading into the matchup with Georgia. The loss, as frustrating and controversial as it was, was pretty inconsequential to the Crimson Tide's hopes of getting both to the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff.

The AP and Coaches' Polls on Sunday proved it.

Alabama remained No. 7 in the Coaches Poll and stayed put at No. 6 in the AP Poll despite the loss. That was the right decision. The Crimson Tide proved it could go toe-to-toe with Georgia, which jumped up to No. 1 after the win and with Texas unexpectedly losing to Oklahoma.

The loss to Georgia was inconsequential, for now. The only way it becomes consequential is if Alabama allows the emotional defeat to carry over next week in Knoxville. The road matchup at Tennessee has become massively important now that the Tide has a loss on its resume.

Despite the offensive struggles of the Vols this year, you know that Josh Heupel and his team will be extra motivated to win at home in the Third Saturday in October rivalry.

Alabama has lost the last two matchups in Knoxville. The game four years ago in 2022 was the only other in recent memory that came with the same level of controversy as last night's at Bryant-Denny. Two years ago, Alabama blew numerous opportunities and lost by a touchdown.

It's time to snap that streak and get back to winning in Neyland. It's also vital after this week's loss to Georgia. If Kalen DeBoer can lead Alabama to a win next week on the road, then this loss at home to Georgia will be mostly forgotten. It'll just be a small missed opportunity that could have catapulted the Crimson Tide to the No. 1 ranking and a near certainty to make the playoff.

But if Alabama can't get the job done, they'll have seen their entire margin for error totally evaporated in just two weeks after working so hard to build it through the first five games of the season.

On Saturday night, we saw an Alabama team capable of standing in the middle of the ring and exchanging punches with one of the most physical teams in the country.

Now we'll see if the mental strength of this team can match the physical strength. Because it'll take just as much mental resolve as anything else to go on the road and beat a quality team like Tennessee.
