The best part of the college softball season is here with the beginning of the NCAA Softball Tournament. For the next few days, softball fans will be able to turn on their TVs all day and watch the beautiful sport in the best time of the year.
For Alabama fans, they are on the edge of their seats as the Tuscaloosa Regional begins. It should be an easy time for Crimson Tide fans as Alabama drew the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, but it is anything but easy for the Tide.
The Tide drew a very tough regional with Belmont, Southeastern Louisiana, and USC Upstate. Both Belmont and Southeastern Louisiana bring elite pitching staffs, especially Belmont's Maya Johnson, who has both the best ERA (0.66) in the country and the most strikeouts (381) in the nation.
As the NCAA Tournament is upon us, Vegas oddsmakers are putting out their odds for who will stand over the rest at the end, and Alabama can't be happy with where they stand.
Alabama's National Championship odds show just how tough their Regional is
The region that Alabama drew almost seems unfair when they are the No. 1 overall seed, and many have the Tide on upset alert. Vegas oddsmakers also seem to think the Tide could be on upset alert when looking at the National Championship odds, with Alabama tied for the third-best odds.
Top five National Championship odds provided by Draft Kings:
- Oklahoma Sooners: +200
- Texas Tech Red Raiders: +300
- Texas Longhorns: +500
- Alabama Crimson Tide: +500
- Nebraska Cornhuskers: +800
The Tide are tied with the Longhorns for the third-best odds to win it all behind Oklahoma and somehow Texas Tech, who is the 11-seed. Granted, the Red Raiders were in the championship last season, but have not had the same season they once did last year.
Alabama wasn't able to win the SEC Championship, falling to the Longhorns in the final game, but they were still granted the No. 1 seed. It feels like the softball selection committee still hit them with a tough regional, almost in a way to even things out.
The Tide will begin their regional with a Noon first pitch against USC Upstate, probably the easiest of the three mid-major teams in the Tuscaloosa Regional. A win would still mean a tough road for Alabama, but put them in a better spot to avoid the upset.
