Next: SEC Football Best Teams

The SEC's five top-ranked teams from last week retained their spots in the current Power Ranking. Three of them, Georgia, Texas A&M, and Alabama, had bye weeks. Tennessee and LSU had games against inferior teams. As a result, little to nothing was learned about the SEC's top teams.

Where the real power will evolve in the SEC is impossible to predict. Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and Missouri appear capable of rising enough to displace some in the current top five.

  • No. 5 LSU Tigers (4-0) - Last week, No. 5 - Now that Clemson has dropped to 1-3, the Bengal Tigers lack a win over a good team. Beating Southeast Louisiana 56-10 in Baton Rouge proved nothing.
  • No. 4 Tennessee Vols (3-1) - Last week, No. 4 - How unimpressive was Tennessee's 56-24 home win over UAB? Alabama State scored 42 points in a loss to UAB. Akron scored 28 points in a close loss to the Blazers. Both are woefully bad football teams.
  • No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide (2-1) - Last week, No. 3 - Wisconsin's 27-10 home loss to Maryland was a blemish on the Alabama resume. Some thought was given to dropping Alabama in the rankings.
  • No. 2 Texas A&M Aggies (3-0) - Last week, No. 2 - The Aggies' future could produce a 7-0 record before going to Baton Rouge in late October.
  • No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (3-0) - Last week, No. 1 - Are they the Big Bad Dawgs? An answer awaits.
