The Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Vanderbilt Commodores is getting the most attention in Week 6 of the SEC football season. Even if GameDay was not coming to Tuscaloosa, national attention would be on the game.

Getting less notice, but for some teams nearly as pivotal as the game in Tuscaloosa are: Kentucky at Georgia, Texas at Florida, and Mississippi State at Texas A&M. Oklahoma also plays on Saturday, but will cakewalk over a bad Kent State team.

Let's review the point spread for the four SEC vs. SEC games and add a prediction for each.

SEC Football Week 6

  • Kentucky Wildcats (2-2) at Georgia (3-1) - The Bulldogs are favored by 20.5 points. Even with Georgia's injury issues on the offensive line, the Bulldogs will win. The Cats are not much better offensively after a quarterback change. That alone should negate any chance they can replicate last season's close loss against the Dawgs. Kentucky will not produce many points, resulting in Georgia not having to score more than a couple of touchdowns to win. The Dawgs might not cover the spread.
  • Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-1) at Texas A&M Aggies (4-0) - Will the Bulldogs receive a stinging dose of reality in College Station? The Aggies are favored by 14.5 points. ESPN Analytics gives the Bulldogs only a 21.1% probability of winning. That seems right, but Jeff Lebby's offense has been humming almost as loudly as Starkville cowbells. I'll take the Aggies to win, but not cover, and maybe win by less than a touchdown.
  • Texas Longhorns (3-1) at Florida Gators (1-3) - Steve Sarkisian's team finally plays an SEC football regular-season game. The Horns are favored by 6.5 points. Sark's offense may wallow around again, but his defense is sound. I see Texas winning a low-scoring game and covering.
  • Kent State Golden Flashes (1-3) at Oklahoma Sooners (4-0) - At the risk of offending Nick Saban, what the heck is a Golden Flash? And why does anyone care? As a 45.5-point favorite, Boomer Sooner will roll as much as it wants in Norman. Before making fun of OU's buy-game, remember that it is followed by five games in six weeks against Texas, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Alabama, with four being road games.
  • Vanderbilt Commodores (5-0) at Alabama Crimson Tide (3-1) - The Tide will roll. More thoughts to follow.
