Lane Kiffin wanted so badly to play Alabama at night. After the sun went down on Saturday in Baton Rouge, the Crimson Tide outscored the Bengal Tigers 21-0. When LSU next plays Alabama in Baton Rouge, maybe Kiffin should lobby for an 11:00 AM kickoff.
Alabama beat LSU 31-13 despite being outgained by the Bengal Tigers, 457 yards to 285 yards. Kane Wommack's Swarm worked, giving up yards but surrendering only one touchdown. LSU went into the game with a sack-monster rep, but the Crimson Tide produced more sacks and more quarterback hurries.
Despite the first-half impact of the Tiger Stadium crowd, Alabama did not beat itself with penalties. Alabama finished with seven penalties for 49 yards, but winning the turnover battle 2-0 made up for the few miscues. Most importantly, Keelon Russell played like a veteran. LSU had two sacks and four QB hurries, but Russell never flinched. After the game, Kalen DeBoer called Russell a stud, adding that Russell's ankle injury during the game was never going to keep Keelon from returning to the contest.
During a nine-minute span from late in the third quarter until the game was out of LSU's reach, at the 6:23 mark of the fourth quarter, Russell threw touchdown passes to Josh Ford, Cederian Morgan, and Kaleb Edwards. Nighttime in Baton Rouge turned into night terrors for Lane Kiffin and the Bengal Tigers.
The tweet below is a classic.

LSU now has maybe a 20% chance to make the Playoff field. Alabama is a near-lock. Kiffin's career record against Alabama moved to 0-6. Kalen DeBoer, Ryan Grubb, and Kane Wommack outcoached Kiffin, Blake Baker, and Charlie Weiss Jr.
In a statement game for both teams, Alabama prospered, and LSU wilted. Perhaps only a National Championship would make Alabama fans happier. Alabama's win was an emphatic answer to the hordes of experts and fans who derided the CFB Playoff Selection Committee for ranking the Crimson Tide No. 5.
