Florida cut down the nets on Monday night after beating Houston and capping off the 2024-25 college basketball season. The Transfer Portal is in full swing and far too many way-too-early Top 25 rankings for next season are being penned despite the majority of rosters being far from finalized for next season.
On Tuesday, the AP Poll revealed its final Top 25 poll of the 2024-25 college basketball season. Alabama finished at No. 6, behind the Top 5 of Florida, Houston, Duke, Auburn, and Houston. It's the third straight season, and the fourth in five years, where the Crimson Tide finished inside the Top 10 of the final AP Poll.
This is the third straight season that Alabama made the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament, and the second straight year the Tide advanced at least to the Elite Eight. Following up last year's miraculous run to the Final Four, this year's team fell short in the Elite Eight against Duke.
Alabama's 28 wins this season is tied for the 2nd most in a single season in school history. The 2022-23 Crimson Tide, which was the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, won a program record 31 games.
A wire-to-wire Top 10 ranking for Alabama basketball
Nate Oats has led this program to a lot of firsts in his six years as the head coach. First No. 1 seed. First 30-win season. First Final Four. And now, for the first time in program history, Alabama went wire-to-wire as an AP Top 10 team.
The Tide entered the season ranked No. 2 in the AP Poll and never fell outside of the Top 10. In the December 2nd AP Poll, Alabama fell to No. 10 following a loss to Oregon in Las Vegas in the Championship Game of the inaugural Players Era Festival.
Alabama climbed all the way back up to No. 2 in the February 10th AP Poll (and No. 1 in the Coaches Poll) ahead of the first ever matchup between the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in SEC history when Auburn traveled to Coleman Coliseum. The Tigers pulled out the win that day with Alabama getting revenge at Neville Arena in March by spoiling Senior Day for Auburn.
