The SEC 'Good Teams' Tier
- No. 10 - Vanderbilt Commodores - (5-1, 1-1) - The Dores had a bye in Week 7.
- No. 9 - Missouri Tigers (5-1, 1-1) - A physically tough Missouri team did not have enough talent to beat a more mentally tough Alabama Crimson Tide, losing 27-24.
- No. 8 - Oklahoma Sooners (5-1, 1-1) - Was John Mateer healthy enough to compete? The Sooners lost to tough Texas defense and an improved Arch Manning, 23-6.
- No. 7 - LSU Bengal Tigers (5-1, 2-1) - LSU's defense was too much for Florida in its 20-10 home win.
- No. 6 - Texas Longhorns (4-2, 1-1) - Manning was better. Are the Horns back? Texas beat Oklahoma in Dallas, 23-6.
- No. 5 - Tennessee Vols (5-1, 2-1) - My guess is Tennessee spent much of its weekly prep working on Alabama. The result was a 34-31 win over Arkansas that was misleadingly close.
- No. 4 - Ole Miss Rebels (6-0, 3-0) - There is no doubt Ole Miss ignored Washington State and spent last week getting ready for Georgia. The reasonable decision almost backfired, with the Rebels winning 24-21.
- No. 3 - Georgia Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1) - The Dawgs are a tough out for any team, but as was evident against Auburn, the offense needs improvement. Georgia won in Jordan-Hare 20-10.
