The Alabama baseball regular season ended on a bit of a sour note with a series loss in Gainesville to Florida, but it was still an impressive run for Rob Vaughn and his team. The Crimson Tide finished the regular season at 40-15 overall and 16-14 in SEC play.

Alabama finished undefeated in mid-week games and lost only one non-conference game throughout the season.

Alabama's offense, led by potential All-American Justin Lebron, was plenty good enough. The issue that kept the Tide out of the upper echelon of the SEC was inconsistent pitching. Riley Quick's return from injury was a big boost, but the rest of the starters and the bullpen outside of closer Carson Ozmer struggled to find consistent footing.

Still, the Tide managed to finish above .500 in the toughest league in the country. That earned Alabama the No. 9 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament in Hoover.

Alabama will open the SEC Tournament on Tuesday's Game 1 in Hoover. Alabama will face the 16-seeded Missouri at 9:30am CT. The Tigers finished SEC play at 3-27 and spent much of the year winless in conference before a stunning sweep of Texas A&M in College Station a week ago.

Alabama swept Missouri in Tuscaloosa earlier in the season, outscoring them in the aggregate 26-9.

What does Alabama need to do in the SEC Tournament to host a Regional?

A win over Florida on Saturday to clinch the series in Gainesville probably would have been enough to assure Alabama one of the 16 hosting spots in the NCAA Tournament. Instead, Alabama's fate could be tied to its performance in Hoover.

By all accounts, a loss to Missouri would be damaging to Alabama's case. The Tigers were by far the worst team in the SEC. Some believe a win over Missouri would be enough to clinch a spot for the Tide in Tuscaloosa.

If Alabama knocks out Missouri on Tuesday morning, they would advance to take on Tennessee in another matinee matchup on Wednesday. The winner there would battle top-seeded Texas on Thursday. You can view the full bracket here.

Alabama last won the SEC Tournament back in 2003. That probably won't change this season, but the Crimson Tide can still set themselves up for postseason success with a win or two. Hosting a Regional is a big first step toward a Super Regional berth and potentially advancing to Omaha for the College World Series.
