Saturday night's win may have seemed lackluster and a lot closer than many would have liked to see, but winning ugly tells me more about this Alabama team than if they had blown out LSU. The offensive execution was lacking for a majority of the game, but that says more about the Tigers' defense. That defense has carried them all season, as this has been one of the most disappointing offenses in America, considering all the pre-season hype.
Kane Wommack's defense came out on fire after the bye week and carried the Tide to victory. It is refreshing to see this unit continue to be stingy inside the redzone and being able to keep their energy up even when the offense is not seeing the same success.
The other part of an ugly win against a team that most expected Alabama to blow out is that the coaches will have the players' attention going into the Oklahoma game. Obviously, not much has to be said considering what happened last year in this game, but nobody feels satisfied with the win against LSU. Ty Simpson is going to have to be crisper with his passes; the receiving core still has some worrisome drops, but I am confident the overall passing game will look better against the Sooners. Honestly, I am not sure we will see much more from the running game, but if we have any more success running the ball, it will be very much welcomed. It would be interesting to see if AK Dear will ever get some time, as what we have going right now just is not working.
Kalen DeBoer has done a great job having the players and coaches on fire coming off a bye week since he has arrived, so it was a little surprising we did not see that at times against the Tigers. I am confident that energy will be seen against Oklahoma, which has huge playoff implications, as well as looking to complete the sweep in revenge games on the schedule.
