Alabama Baseball: Overstreet, Carter, And Salem Drafted On Final Day For Draft

The University of Alabama baseball team had three more representatives from the 2015 season drafted on the final day for the MLB Draft. With the addition of those three, that moves the total to six current players that were selected.

Kyle Overstreet and Will Carter both were selected in the 14th round and Georgie Salem went in the 39th.
Overstreet was the first to get called up by the San Diego Padres with the 419th pick.
Here is RollTide.com’s rundown on Overstreet’s career:
"Overstreet started all 60 games this past season, acting as the team’s primary second baseman while also making starts at catcher and third base. He committed just five errors and ranked second in assists with 146 on his way to earning All-SEC Defensive Team honors at second base. The junior closed out the season with 41 runs scored and 38 RBI, totals that ranked second on the team, and batted .281 (66-235). A steady presence in the box, Overstreet put together two double-digit hitting streaks along with a six and five-game streak by season’s end.Continuing to progress as a hitter, the Boaz native put together career-highs in nearly every offensive category during his final season and improved on his previous year’s total each of his three seasons. Overstreet wrapped up his time at Alabama batting .277 (192-694) with 105 RBI and 99 runs scored. He maintained a .985 fielding percentage across 978 chances and finished with 541 career assists to rank third all-time at Alabama."
Carter followed his Alabama teammate five selections later after being selected by the New York Yankees.
From the same press release, here is there rundown on Carter:
"Carter started out the season as the Crimson Tide’s Saturday starter before moving into a bullpen role. Coming out of the bullpen, Carter went a perfect 2-0 with an unblemished 0.00 ERA with 10 strikeouts across his eight innings of work. The junior collected wins in each of his last three regular-season outings of the year and was a major part of the Tide’s late-season push to the conference tournament."
Last but certainly not least, Georgie Salem was the final player to be picked up and was selected with the 1,156th pick to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Here is the rundown on his career in Tuscaloosa:
Salem closed out his junior campaign playing in all 60 games, starting 59 of them and finished with a .276 average. He set career-highs in doubles (12), triples (4), home runs (3), runs scored (40), stolen bases (17) and slugging percentage (.395). The junior led the team in stolen bases while committing a team-low one error in the field. Carrying over from last season, Salem went 86 consecutive games without an error to surpass Jeremy Brown’s total of 84 (2000-02) for the Alabama all-time errorless games streak.
