TIDE REPORT: Saban Talks Scarbrough Suspension, Fans Booing Players

It’s time for another edition of the Tide Report to get you caught up on the latest happenings surrounding Alabama athletics.

As always, there were no media viewing periods on Thursday for practice so no updates on that front.

Coach Nick Saban held his weekly radio show “Hey Coach” live from Bob’s Victory Grille Thursday night. He did make one announcement on the injury front along with addressing the suspension of Tide running back Bo Scarbrough and booing your own players.

True freshman Ronnie Harrison will play in Maurice Smith’s spot while Alabama is in dime on defense. Saban said Smith suffered a stinger sometime this week during practice.

If you remember, Bo Scarbrough is serving a four-game suspension for NCAA rules violations. Until now, no one had any idea what happened but Saban gave a little insight into that as well as the contributions they are looking for from Scarbrough when he returns.

“I think Bo will definitely be able to contribute to the team,” Saban said per Bama Online. “I think there’s two things at work here. He had a four-game suspension for something that happened when he was being recruited in high school, not by us. And he also has the recovery of an ACL injury that occurred in the spring. I don’t think he would have been able to play in these first couple games, anyways.”

“He’s practicing every day, he’s getting closer to 100 percent and I do think after the four games, he will be able to contribute in some kind of way. He’s a big, strong, physical guy. We don’t have a lot of depth at running back, so I think he can definitely contribute at that position. But I also think Bo would be a great special teams player for us.”

And the last thing on the agenda, don’t boo players from the team that you cheer for. They want to win just as you do and in most instances, more than you. They want the ball to go through the uprights, or to haul in the game-winning touchdown pass, or knock down the pass that would send a game to overtime. Don’t want to listen to me? Take it from Saban.
