#7 Nick Saban saw what happened to Steve Spurrier.
Steve Spurrier is the cautionary tale of college football coaches who make the jump to the NFL. When Steve Spurrier left for the NFL he was one of the top coaches in college football. When Spurrier returned to college football he was still one of the greats, but he would never again be a top coach of a top team.
Spurrier left for the NFL when he was 57 and by the time he returned to college football he was seen as old, as a guy on the way out. Nick Saban would be heading back to the NFL at 64, so if he went he might not even get the chance to return to college football if it didn’t work out.
Being a success in college doesn’t mean you will be a success in the NFL, they are just very different animals. Do you really think Nick Saban wants the end of his career to be another run in the NFL? Do you think Nick Saban wants to roll the dice on NFL glory now, or retire in a few years from Alabama as a college football legend?
No matter what the media, or fans of NFL teams, or fans of Alabama rivals want Nick Saban is going to stay at Alabama.
