#3 The SEC Excuse

This one is very popular with the tin foil hat wearing, black helicopter seeing, conspiracy theorists.

“Oh if Henry wins it’s rigged for the SEC”

Apparently these nut jobs weren’t paying attention 3 out of the last 4 years when an SEC player didn’t win the Heisman.

RG III – NOT SEC

Johnny Football – SEC

Jameis Winstons – NOT SEC

Marcus Mariota – NOT SEC

If it is rigged for the SEC, then the SEC is doing a terrible job at cheating.

This excuse comes up a lot when talking to PAC-12 fans this year that are pushing for Christian McCaffery.  This is a symptom of the Heisman being turned into this conference vs conference competition.  The poor PAC-12 has struggled mightily this year and is left out of the playoff completely, so their fans have latched onto the Heisman campaign of McCaffery as some sort of runner up look we are still great second prize.

McCaffery is good, he would be second on my ballot, but he’s played on a two loss team in a down and out league that didn’t even make the playoff.

ESPN is not rigging the Heisman for the SEC and if you think that then you’re just creating your own reality.
