“Looking Ahead” Past Florida

Late in the season, the playoff picture got a little messy. By Thanksgiving the only undefeated teams left were Alabama and Western Michigan.

There was a lot of controversy surrounding who should make the Playoff. The only thing the talking heads could agree on was that Alabama was in. And then a couple of particularly brave souls suggested that Alabama could lose to Florida and still get in.

You can see the logic there. Everyone else already had one loss. The SEC East winner is a decent team to lose to, and the argument was that Alabama had beaten enough good teams to have an impressive resume.

Logical or not, it wasn’t a good argument to bring up with Nick Saban.

A reporter asked what he thought of the argument in one of his press conferences during the week leading up to the SEC Championship Game.

Coach Saban wasn’t happy. He doesn’t like to lose games, no matter what’s at stake. He ranted for a while about how you play games to win them and we always want to win games.

And then bless that brave reporter. He let Coach finish and then dared to ask another question about Jalen Hurts.

Coach Saban wasn’t having it. “You should’ve asked that one first!” he replied, clearly annoyed.

Never change coach.
