Alabama Gymnastics: Crimson Tide Beats Heated Rival Georgia

Alabama Gymnastics scored their fourth consecutive victory over the Georgia Gym Dogs with a 197.700 – 197.325 score.

The No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide invaded Athens to face the No. 8 Georgia Gym Dogs in their 122nd meeting of the rivals. This is a rivalry that Alabama Gymnastics always circles on the calendar. This isn’t just a normal rivalry. This a rivalry that has 16 National Championships, 25 SEC Championships, 68 Individual National Champions and 717 All-Americans between both programs.

Alabama started on the Uneven Bars and junior Kiana Winston (aka the Lethal Weapon) led the way with a 9.925 score. Senior Katie Bailey scored a 9.900 and freshman Shea Mahoney delivered a 9.875 as Alabama recorded their best score of the season on the uneven bars with 49.400 overall total.

The Crimson Tide continued their momentum in to the Vault rotation. Freshman Maddie Desch scored a 9.875 marking a new career-best. Senior Katie Bailey recorded a 9.875 as well and helped Alabama Gymnastics score a 49.275 on the event.

Alabama headed to the floor rotation with all of the energy behind them. Kianna Winston exploded in her routine scoring a 9.950 and silencing the Georgia crowd. Sophomores Maddie Desch and Ari Guerra both score a 9.900 with freshman Wynter Childers delivering a 9.875 score for a new career best. Alabama would finish with a 49.500 overall score with one rotation left in the meet.

The Crimson Tide stormed in to the balance beam with all of the pressure on Georgia to be perfect in their routines. Junior Nicki Guerrero took the air out of the arena with a 9.950 score that stunned the home crowd. Junior Kianna Winston posted a 9.925 for a new career best while sophomore Maddie Desch sealed the win with a 9.900 score.

Alabama Gymnastics recorded a 49.525 overall score on the balance beam to give them their fourth consecutive victory over Georgia. Kianna Winston won her fifth All-Around championship and now leads the Crimson Tide in to the final meet of the regular season.
