Alabama Football: Top recruits headed to ‘Third Saturday in October’
By Ronald Evans
Alabama football is hosting an important slate of top recruits for the Tennessee game. Check out how the Tide stands with each.
Crunch time is fast approaching for Alabama football and top 2018 recruits. After Saturday, big Tuscaloosa recruiting weekends will be limited to LSU and maybe one more squeezed in before the Early Signing Period.
Alabama football has a few top 2018 priorities visiting for the Tennessee game and at least one of them could make a decision soon.
Note: The recruit ratings referenced below are from the 247Sports Composite.
2018 Uncommitted Top Recruits on Official Visits
- Bobby Brown – Defensive Tackle; 4-Star. Brown has been a priority for Alabama football since he camped in Tuscaloosa during the summer. At 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds, he can play either defensive end or tackle. He is rated as the No. 13 DT in the nation. Brown has scheduled November 2nd as an announce date. He last visit will be next week at Texas A&M. Oklahoma is also a factor.
- Penei Sewell – Offensive Tackle; 4-Star. Sewall is from Utah, but the Tide’s main competition is coming from Oregon. Even though many insiders have predicted Sewell to the Tide for a few months, former Tide assistant Mario Cristobal has given the Ducks a chance. The Tide will try to close the Ducks door this weekend.
2018 Committed Top Recruits on Official Visits
- Emory Jones – Quarterback; 4-Star – Verbal to Ohio State. Jones is one of two top QB targets for the Tide. Alabama football is also very interested in Jarren Williams (4-Star, Verbal to Kentucky) and Jones may not have an extended window to make the flip to the Tide. He has made five visits to learn more about the Tide and is scheduled to return to Ohio State next weekend. Jones is No. 4 rated Dual-Threat QB in the nation.
- Antwuan Jackson – Defensive Tackle; 4-Star – Verbal to Ohio State. Getting Jackson to Tuscaloosa on an official visit is a big deal. Jackson chose Auburn coming out of high school but transferred to Blinn College. The odds of a flip do not seem high but with such a position of need and Nick Saban closing, you never know.
- Joshua Moore – Wide Receiver; 4-Star – Verbal Commit to Nebraska. Moore is the No. 22 rated WR in the nation but Alabama football is recruiting him as an Athlete, who can play offense or defense. Moore’s brother, Jordan is also making the trip. Jordan is committed to Texas A&M and Alabama is not believed to be seriously recruiting him.
2018 Committed Top Recruits on Unofficial Visits
- Emil Ekiyor – Offensive Tackle; 4-Star – Verbal to Michigan. Most recruiting experts are predicting a flip by Ekiyor to the Tide. He is the No. 2 rated Center but he could also play guard for the Tide. POSSIBLE FLIP AND COMMIT this weekend.
- Asa Martin – Running Back; 4-Star – Verbal to Auburn. Alabama has been on Martin for a long time and did not stop after he announced to Auburn. He is the No. 10 rated running back in the nation. Martin also visited for the Arkansas game.
- Coynis Miller – Defensive Tackle; 4-Star – Verbal to Auburn. Miller’s choice of Auburn is so recent, this trip is not likely to mean much for the Tide.
2018 Uncommitted Recruits on Unofficial Visits
- Seth Williams – Wide Receiver; 4-star. Williams is from Cottondale so it is a short trip. He is a talented player but the Tide may not have room for him in the 2018 class. He is also rumored to currently favor Auburn.
- Christian Tutt – Cornerback; 4-star. Tutt is high on Alabama but insiders do not expect Alabama football will accept a commit from him while waiting on other CB’s.
- Kevontae Ruggs – Linebacker; 3-star. The brother of Henry Ruggs III will also have to wait and see if the Tide has room for him.
2019 Top Recruits
- Taulia Tagovailoa – Quarterback; 4-Star
- Cortez Andrews – Safety; 4-Star
- Clay Webb – Offensive Line; 5-Star
- Amari Kight – Offensive Line; 4-Star
- Jalen Perry – Cornerback; 4-Star
- Paul Tyson – Quarterback; 3-Star. Tyson is the great-grandson of Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant. Tyson has not received an offer from Alabama football.
