Alabama football was in the second season of Mike Dubose as head coach. The 1997 season had been a huge disappointment for Tide fans with the Tide limping to a 4-7 record that included losses to Louisiana Tech and Kentucky.

Leading up to this game, LSU was looking to end a 29-year home losing streak against the Crimson Tide.  Neither team was having a good season at this point. Alabama was 5-3 and LSU was 4-4, so a win over Alabama football would have been great for the Tigers.

Trying to salvage their season and end the streak, LSU came out playing great. They jumped out to a 16-7 lead against Alabama and held on to it late into the fourth quarter.

However, freshman quarterback Andrew Zow was not about to let the Tide leave Baton Rouge with a loss.  Zow connected with star running back Shaun Alexander on a 21-yard pass to cut the lead to 16-14.

Needing a miracle, Alabama attempted and recovered an onside kick after Alexander’s score.  With 34 seconds left in the game, Zow connected with receiver Quincy Jackson on a 25-yard touchdown pass.

Alabama converted a two-point conversion after the score to put the cap on an amazing comeback.  Final Score: Alabama 22 LSU 16
