Check out position grades for the quarterbacks and running backs in the Alabama football 2020 Signing Class.

Observant Alabama football fans may question one of the plurals in the heading above. It is not a mistake. Alabama football did sign more than one quarterback for the 2020 class. In addition, Nick Saban loaded up on running backs.

Even though the Crimson Tide has open spots to fill in February, recruiting for the two position groups is complete.

A good place to start in reviewing the latest roster additions is with a list of returning players. The prevailing opinion of Alabama football fans and NFL Draft experts is Najee Harris will choose early-entry. No one, except maybe Tua, knows what his decision will be. other than Najee and (probably) Tua, all other quarterbacks and running backs are expected to return.

Some Crimson Tide fans might ask, what about the transfer portal. It is too soon to know or even speculate. Any players choosing that option will probably go through spring practice first.

Alabama Football Projected Returning QBs and RBs

  • Mac Jones – 2020 Junior
  • Taulia Tagovailoa – 2020 Sophomore
  • Paul Tyson – 2020 Redshirt Freshman
  • Brian Robinson – 2020 Senior
  • Keilan Robinson – 2020 Sophomore
  • Chadarius Townsend – 2020 Redshirt Junior
  • Jerome Ford – 2020 Redshirt Sophomore
  • Trey Sanders – 2020 Redshirt Freshman

Note: Speculation on social media has Brian Robinson not returning. We have no basis to elaborate further.

The quarterback additions are 5-Star, Bryce Young and 4-Star, Athlete, Kristain Story. It is not a given Story will start at quarterback. He could play wide receiver or in the defensive backfield. He could even play running back but that position group does not need another competitor.

At the most (excluding injury adjustments) Alabama football can only make playing time for four running backs. Brian Robinson, Keilan Robinson and Trey Sanders are almost assured of being three of the four.

The incoming freshmen running backs:

  • Jase McClellan; 4-Star; No. 43 player overall
  • Roydell Williams; 4-Star; No. 86 player overall
  • Kyle Edwards; 3-Star; No. 410 player overall

Note: Player rankings are from the 247Sports Composite.

Both McClellan and Williams have the skills to become ‘the’ feature back for the Crimson Tide. They have all the tools – size, speed, can run with power and catch the ball out of the backfield.

Check out these Roydell Williams highlights.

Some Alabama football insiders rate Kyle Edwards as the best pure runner of the three. Check out his video below.
