Alabama Football’s Top Ten Moments of the Decade
1. 2017: 2nd and 26
Second and 26 is a clear favorite for the top moment of the decade. Old-Fashioned Nick Saban benched his experienced starter for a true freshman quarterback. It was a risky move for a coach that doesn’t like risks. At first, it appeared the gamble would not pay off. Tua threw an interception on a play where he was clearly confused. Nick may have gulped but he did not blink and stuck with his young gunslinger.
Tua Tagovailoa came in and made history. The Dawgs received the first possession and nailed a 51-yard field goal to take the lead. Knowing field goal kicking was the Tide’s achilles heel, a touchdown was a necessity. After taking a huge sack on first down in overtime, Tua Tagovailoa unloaded a bomb to Devonta Smith on 2nd and 26 for the walk-off touchdown for Alabama Football’s 17th National Championship.
The Alabama Football team has too many memorable moments to count over their last decade of dominance. After a disappointing end, the Tide looks to continue rolling in 2020 for the next decade.
