No tickets will change hands at Alabama football games this fall

Admission at Alabama football games this fall will still require a ticket purchase. But paper tickets will not be used at entrance gates. Scanners at each gate will identify those entering have a ticket.

Alabama football fans are anxious for more details on game attendance this fall. Other details will be announced in the coming weeks. The purpose of the first official change is to minimize risks of virus transmission between fans and ticket takers.

As the University of Alabama ticket office explained, the new ‘Mobile Ticketing’ process will also guard against the distribution of fraudulent tickets. The new technology requires a smartphone.

"Purchasers will receive their tickets via email, allowing them to download tickets into their Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Pay Wallet (Android). Prior to reaching the gates, ticketholders will open their digital wallet, select game tickets and hold their smartphone near the scanner."

Alabama Crimson Tide fans without a smartphone may contact the Ticket Office to learn of other entry options. The release stated tickets can still be transferred to ‘friends’ as in the past. Based on the release, season ticket holders may only be able to re-sell tickets through Stub-Hub. No other platform for fan-to-fan transactions was listed in the release.

Ticket transfers require the ticket recipient to have a University of Alabama online ticketing account.

Is the new admittance policy and procedure a good idea? Most Alabama football fans will probably consider it a worthwhile caution. Will there be unintended consequences?  Probably, but there is no reason to believe negatives will not be outweighed by positives. Could the Alabama football program be taking this opportunity to discourage some re-sale of tickets? Season ticket holders are frequently disappointed to see how many opposing fans attend big home games.

The new program is okay with re-sale through Stub-Hub. Potentially, there are financial incentives in restricting re-sale to that vendor.

How to transfer tickets is explained here. The is also a long list of answers to frequently asked questions available for review.

Next. Less than full stadiums might help the Tide. dark

Recently, we discussed potential ticket demand and reduced capacity conflicts. Hopefully, more will be learned soon. For Alabama football fans, offseasons require waiting and patience. The interval is never easy. This one is harder than ever before.
