Alabama Football: Ticket prices skyrocket with limited seating
By Dakota Cox
Alabama football’s ticket prices have spiked for 2020.
Ticket prices for Alabama football games are always high against SEC opponents. When you’re watching one of the best teams in college football history, expect to pay a premium. In 2020, prices will be significantly higher than normal.
This is a simple economics issue. When there is limited supply but equal demand, prices rise. This season, Alabama will only be at around 20% capacity in their home games due to social distancing guidelines. Not only is there a limited supply for each game, but there will only be five home games as opposed to the usual seven.
It also doesn’t help that all of Alabama football’s games are against SEC opponents. In a typical season, you might find your way into some cheap tickets when the Tide play Georgia State or Southern Miss. In 2020, their easiest home opponent is Mississippi State, a team with an elite running back and Mike Leach in charge.
Let’s look at the most expensive tickets for Alabama football games that I can find. For the upcoming home game against the Georgia Bulldogs, tickets go as high as $3,360. There are certainly cheaper seats in Bryant-Denny Stadium, but this shows just how insane ticket prices are for Alabama’s biggest games.
One game that all Alabama football fans want to see is the Iron Bowl. Tickets against Auburn always go for hundreds of dollars. Fans will have to pay $623 for the cheapest seats in the stadium. Some tickets are nearly going for two grand.
If you want to go to a home game this season, you’re going to want to start saving now. It will be hard to find a ticket to any opponent for under $200. Those are the prices right now, but they will increase as we get closer to the season. With every win that Alabama notches, the prices continue to rise. By the time the Iron Bowl actually happens, you might have to pay a thousand dollars to get a seat.
Alabama will be fun to watch in 2020. If you want to watch them in person, start saving your nickels and dimes.
