Alabama Football Defense Depth Chart – Cornerbacks and Safeties

The Alabama Crimson Tide returns one starter and two partial starters from the 2019 secondary. The one returning starter might be the best cornerback in the nation, Patrick Surtain II. The partial starters, Josh Jobe and Jordan Battle have far less experience, just six career starts between them. But for the 2020 Crimson Tide secondary, those six starts make them veterans.

That leaves another safety and the Nickel and Money positions. At least nine Crimson Tide defenders are battling for the three positions. Two of them are true freshmen.

Cornerback Starter – Patrick Surtain II
Cornerback Starter – Josh Jobe
Cornerback Backup – Ronald Williams or Jaylin Armour-Davis
Cornerback Backup – Marcus Banks or Brandon Turnage
Safety Starter – Jordan Battle
Safety Starter – Daniel Wright
Safety Backup – Demarcco Hellams
Safety Backup – Eddie Smith or Malachi Moore
Nickel Corner (Star) Starter – Brian Branch or Malachi Moore or Jaylin Armour-Davis
Dime DB (Money) Starter – Demarcco Hellams

UPDATED: Sept. 19, 2:30 PM CST – Ronald Williams is out with a broken arm

The 2020 Alabama football secondary will become very good. Particularly early in the season, it will need the help of an effective pass rush. Even with their top returning receiver opting out, the Aggies have a passing attack to stress an inexperienced Crimson Tide secondary.
