Alabama football has a few holes on their 2020 roster.
Every Alabama football team has plenty of strengths. Whether it’s a Heisman candidate at running back or an electric defense, there is always something for the Crimson Tide to lean on.
2020 will be no different. Alabama is the conference frontrunner for a reason, and they have plenty of stars. However, there are still some weak spots on the roster. After how the defense struggled last season, this should not be a surprise.
Alabama football fans can only hope that the strengths outweigh the weaknesses as we approach the start of the 2020 college football season. Let’s take a look at what those strengths and weaknesses are.
Strength: Offensive line
Alabama is returning four of their five starters from last year’s offensive line, and they are a candidate to win the Joe Moore Award. Mac Jones’s blindside will be protected by senior tackle Alex Leatherwood. The interior of the line will be led by Landon Dickerson and Deonte Brown. With these proven players, expect a clean pocket this year.
Strength: Continuity with the coaching staff
We are used to seeing a mass exodus on Nick Saban’s coaching staff. Coordinators take head coaching jobs. Position coaches take coordinator jobs. Interns take all sorts of jobs. Thankfully for Alabama, the turnover was limited this year. Scott Cochran is the biggest name to replace, but the new strength and conditioning staff has been getting results.
Having continuity on the coaching staff is vital in 2020. With limited workouts and practices, chemistry will make good teams great. Alabama football was already great, so they’ll be even better.
