Alabama Football: Tide might have to wait for revenge on LSU

Alabama football’s path to redemption might take a little longer.

Last season, Alabama football failed to beat their bitter rival. The LSU Tigers beat the Crimson Tide on the road to a national championship. This year, Alabama is looking to get redemption. However, they might have to wait a while.

LSU might not be eligible to play due to recent COVID results. With some players testing positive and others having to quarantine due to close proximity, there is a chance that the game might be out of the question.

If this happened a couple of weeks ago, this would not have been an issue. Before Alabama football’s bye week, there was room in the schedule to shift things around if necessary. Now that Alabama has games scheduled every week, their hopes of playing an entire regular season are dwindling.

There would be a possibility to play a make-up game after the regular season, but there is one problem with that current plan. Due to LSU’s postponed game against Florida, they are already scheduled to play a game that week. With this being the case, there is no way for Alabama football to play LSU unless the game is either played this week or the SEC Championship is somehow pushed back. The latter is unlikely, so fans should simply hope for the game to be played this week.

LSU is not the only team struggling with COVID-19 outbreaks. Florida obviously missed time earlier this season due to an outbreak, and both Mississippi State and Texas A&M reported cases recently. Mississippi State’s game against Auburn has already been postponed.

Alabama really wants to play this game on Saturday. They have dealt with a bad taste in their mouth ever since losing to Joe Burrow and the Tigers. While this current LSU team is nowhere near as good as last year’s, the Tide still wants to get back on a winning streak. Doing it in Baton Rouge would make the victory that much sweeter. LSU has a Nick Saban problem, and that issue is magnified when the Tigers are at home.

This will also be another opportunity for some Louisiana natives to play against their hometown team. Dylan Moses was considered a major LSU target when he was in high school, and he always plays at another level when he goes up against the Tigers. Since he could not play last year, he wants to make a statement in his last trip to Baton Rouge. However, all of this is out of Alabama’s hands. They can only hope that LSU has enough scholarship players to garner a team against the Crimson Tide.

Alabama will simply prepare for this game until it is canceled. If they do get to play, Alabama will be ready to make a statement against the reigning champs.
