Ranking Alabama football’s potential CFP opponents

9. Clemson Tigers

Although there are undefeated teams on this list, Clemson scares me more than any other team. When they are fully healthy, they are a daunting team to stop. Their offense will give the Alabama football secondary fits, and they have had Alabama’s number in recent years.

A game against Clemson could truly go either way. However, I expect that this will end up being a national championship matchup. If Clemson wins out, they will be the second-best team in the nation. If they lose to Notre Dame again, they are out of the CFP.

The Clemson offense has struggled, but we need to see how they look with Trevor Lawrence back. He will elevate the entire team and has what it takes to single-handedly change the outcome of any game. Alabama might be favored against the Tigers, but this would be the toughest opponent the Tide could face.

8. Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State is lower in the CFP rankings, but they are still one of the best teams in the country. Justin Fields has the ability to stretch a defense, and that alone would tip the scales. Alabama would be favored against the Buckeyes, they lost to Ohio State in a CFP game to the Buckeyes in 2014.

If the season ended today, Ohio State would play against Alabama football. However, this is an unlikely game to be played in the semifinal. Ohio State will jump at least one team in the rankings, and Alabama will hopefully stay in the top slot.
