Alabama Football: Tide’s report card in 2020 Iron Bowl
By Dakota Cox
Alabama football’s report card vs. Auburn
Quarterbacks: A+
Mac Jones came into this game looking for redemption after two interceptions in last year’s Iron Bowl. He is also a Heisman contender, and he had a great opportunity to use this game to further his case.
Jones was inaccurate to start this game, but he picked things up early. He threw an easy touchdown to DeVonta Smith that was more than 60 yards. He ended the first half with three passing touchdowns.
Jones is a great cerebral quarterback. He makes smart decisions with the football, and his talent helps him thrive. Mac was looking for redemption against the Auburn Tigers, and he certainly got it in this game. He padded his stats, and he deserves to be the Heisman frontrunner. The Heisman Trophy will likely be decided by the SEC Championship, but Mac could easily win it.
Kicking: A
Will Reichard went into the Iron Bowl with a perfect record this season. No matter what happens for the rest of the season, he is easily the best kicker that Alabama football has seen during Saban’s time as head coach. All he did was kick extra points, but he remained perfect.
Punting: A
Charlie Scott has improved Alabama football’s special teams since becoming the starting punter. He helped the Crimson Tide win the battle of field position early in this game. He rarely had opportunities to punt, but he made no big mistakes. That’s all you need to do as the favorite in a rivalry game.
Alabama football should be proud of how they played. No matter how it looks it is good to win the Iron Bowl. They played well against a quality Auburn team, and they can now look ahead to getting revenge against the LSU Tigers.
