Takeaways from Alabama football’s win vs. LSU

4. We need to talk about DeVonta Smith as Alabama’s best receiver ever

Alabama football has seen multiple historic wide receivers over the years. Nick Saban alone has coached five first-round receivers so far, and he will likely add two in the 2021 NFL Draft. That being said, DeVonta Smith might be the best out of all of them.

Smitty had over 200 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns in the first half alone. He was lined up against Derek Stingley, one of the best corners in college football. Regardless, he dominated on practically every snap.

By the time this season is over, DeVonta Smith might have every major receiving record in the Alabama record books. He already has a few, and he keeps adding to his legacy. His NFL draft stock has skyrocketing by returning for his senior season, and he is going to make an NFL team very happy one day.

I know that Julio Jones did not have the same type of offense that Smitty currently has. That being said, DeVonta Smith might still be the better receiver at Alabama. Julio will likely have the better NFL career, but Smith has done it all. From the stats to the records to 2nd and 26, you cannot tell Alabama football’s story without mentioning DeVonta Smith.

He might not be Alabama’s best receiver ever, but he is at least in the conversation after this game.
