Takeaways from Alabama football’s win vs. LSU

2. Mac Jones is the Heisman frontrunner

Mac Jones had big shoes to fill. After Tua Tagovailoa went down last year, all eyes were on Jones. He played well then, but he has found a new gear in 2020. We began the season with a potential quarterback battle, but Mac Jones instantly became a Heisman contender. After this game, he should be the frontrunner.

There are plenty of players who deserve respect for how they’ve played. Najee Harris and DeVonta Smith have played well enough to be considered finalists, and there are other quarterbacks around the country who have played well. That being said, Jones has to be at the top of the leaderboard so far this year.

Jones started the game with multiple perfect drives. It ftook him forever to have his first incompletion, and he finished the game with plenty of touchdowns. His QBR is off the charts, and his tape proves that he is the best quarterback in college football.

However, it doesn’t truly matter. Voters usually remember November, but they’ll remember December this year. The Heisman Trophy will likely go to the quarterback who wins the SEC Championship. If Alabama beats Florida, Jones should win the trophy. If not, expect Kyle Trask to win it all.
