Alabama Football: The SEC deserves two CFP spots

Alabama football shouldn’t be the only SEC team in the CFP.

This season has been wild, but things are about to get wilder. After conference championships were played, the College Football Playoff picture seems more complicated than ever. While Alabama football has easily punched its ticket, they are not the only team from the SEC that is looking for a shot at the title.

Alabama and Clemson are locks to compete for a title, and Ohio State will likely be the third team in the CFP. In the race for the final slot, Notre Dame will likely be the frontrunner. That being said, Texas A&M deserves a spot in the CFP field.

Let’s take a look at Texas A&M’s resume. They have nine wins in the SEC, and they beat the Florida Gators. That Florida win is as good as nearly any win amongst CFP candidates. While A&M had a frustrating loss against Alabama, that is better than the loss by Notre Dame in the ACC Championship. Texas A&M has also looked like a different team since losing to Alabama football.

Is Notre Dame’s win against Clemson earlier this season a better win than the one against Florida? Probably so. However, the Tigers were without their star quarterback and multiple players on defense. Notre Dame was also playing at home. Even with all of this, the Fighting Irish needed overtime to win.

After the ACC Championship, there is no argument that Notre Dame might be the best team in college football. While Texas A&M is likely not the best team either, they have a better shot of proving it than the Fighting Irish. The Aggies should not be punished for being in the same division as the Crimson Tide after winning the rest of their games.
