Alabama football’s studs and duds vs. Florida

Dud: An easy Heisman decision

We all thought that the SEC Championship would determine who won the Heisman Trophy. However, that may no longer be the case. It’s not because none of the Heisman candidates had a great game. It’s because they all played too well for any single player to separate themselves.

Mac had five touchdowns. Smitty broke an SEC Championship record and scored the final touchdown. Najee had a career day and scored five touchdowns. This makes the Heisman discussion more confusing.

You could make an argument for each of Alabama football’s Heisman candidates. However, I would give the trophy to DeVonta Smith. Either way, it will almost certainly go to an Alabama player.

Dud: The secondary

Give the defensive line and outside linebackers credit. They forced pressure on a great quarterback with plenty of weapons. However, the secondary did not live up to their part of the deal. Malachi Moore got beat multiple times in single coverage. Josh Jobe’s penalty near the goal line took an Alabama football turnover off of the board. Surtain whiffed on coverage that gave up a touchdown.

This group has been a strength all season. Against the Gators, they were the weakness. Alabama needs to fix these things if they want to win it all.
