Reasons Alabama football’s Najee Harris should win the Heisman Trophy

1. The SEC Championship was Najee’s Heisman moment

This logic is flawed, but voters rely heavily on a Heisman moment. Joe Burrow’s moment was against Alabama football in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Derrick Henry’s was against LSU a few years ago. If Najee Harris were to win the Heisman Trophy, you could point to the SEC Championship.

Najee had 245 yards from scrimmage against the Florida defense. He also scored 5 total touchdowns against the Gators. This was an SEC Championship record, and the Crimson Tide needed each and every yard.

Heading into this game, the Heisman Trophy frontrunner was still undecided. It was almost a given that the best player in this game would determine who should win the award. Even with stellar performances by Mac and Smitty, Harris had the best day. He won the MVP award for the game, and that needs to be taken into consideration.

Against the Gators, Alabama needed its best from each and every weapon on offense. They certainly got it. With all of the talent Alabama football has, Najee Harris had the best day. I’m not a fan of deciding a season-long award in one game, but the race has been so close all year. If you need to break the tie, it should go to Najee Harris.

All Alabama stars should be in the race, and you can’t make a choice without leaving out two quality candidates. However, this is the case for Najee Harris to win the Heisman Trophy.
