Alabama Football: All ‘Studs’ in Bama’s CFP Victory
By Ronald Moody
The Offensive Line
The loss of spirited All-American center Landon Dickerson did not slow down the Joe Moore Award finalists. Senior Chris Owens, playing a few miles from his hometown of Arlington, filled in admirably. The Fighting Irish registered one sack on the night, but mostly Jones was working from a clean pocket.
Jahleel Billingsley
The hype train for the uber-talented sophomore tight end is justified. Billingsley’s unique versatility brings a competitive edge to the already explosive offense. Besides catching a 12-yard touchdown, he made an unreal catch. Billingsley’s future is very, very bright.
DeMarcco Hellams
Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book will have Hellams on his mind all night. The sophomore defensive back started the game at safety and responded by being all over the field, recording 12 tackles (6 solos) and one sack on the night. In the fourth quarter, every time I looked up, he was crushing Book in the backfield.
During the post-game press conference, Alabama football head coach Nick Saban spoke on his hellacious play,
"“DeMarcco has played well for us all year long. He just hasn’t had a lot of opportunities. DeMarcco’s a smart guy. He understands the system and the scheme. He’s a good tackler. He’s physical. We knew that they were gonna be a physical team, so we chose to play him today a little bit more, and he did a really good job. But he’s done a really good job in practice, and I think that’s the key to the drill."
