Other candidates to be Alabama football’s offensive coordinator

Kyle Flood, Alabama O-line coach

Nick Saban has a history of internal hires. He promoted Mike Locksley to offensive coordinator after losing Brian Daboll to the Bills. If Saban decides to take the internal route, Kyle Flood will be near the top of his list.

Flood is an excellent offensive line coach. Alabama’s line is the frontrunner to win the Joe Moore Award, and that was after losing Jedrick Wills to the NFL Draft. This unit is well-coached and disciplined, and Flood deserves credit.

Kyle Flood is also an excellent recruiter. Alabama is bringing in the best offensive line class ever in 2021, and he is why. That being said, Nick Saban won’t promote Flood just because of his recruiting. He will have to prove that he can call plays, and that is sometimes hard for offensive line coaches to do. This would be a big jump, and it might not be that likely.

Kyle Flood deserves to be a candidate, but that is different from being the hire. While Flood is great at his job, he is likely not the best overall option. However, this would give the team continuity on offense, and that is very valuable. If Kyle Flood impresses in an interview, the job may very well be his.
