Alabama Football: Jalen Hurts ready to be franchise QB
By Dakota Cox
Alabama football fans could see another NFL franchise quarterback next year
Jalen Hurts will always be an Alabama football legend, but he is trying to write a new legacy. After succeeding with the Oklahoma Sooners and being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, he is looking to become the face of a franchise. The good news is that he seems to be destined to get that chance in 2021.
The Eagles were expecting a quarterback battle, but they just traded former starter Carson Wentz to the Colts for draft compensation. That leaves Hurts as the only quarterback on the roster worth considering at this point. The Eagles could draft someone to compete with Hurts, but that is still unknown. As of right now, Hurts is QB1 in Philly.
Hurts might have a lot of pressure on his shoulders, but he is ready for the moment. He is the only quarterback to compete in four College Football Playoffs. He began his legacy with Alabama football, and he developed his game at Oklahoma. As a mobile threat, he has a high floor. As he continues to grow as a passer, he will improve as an overall player.
There is also no doubt that Hurts is ready to take over as the leader of the organization. He has an infectious personality. No matter what happens on the field, he will have the Eagles bought in and believing in what they can achieve.
Needless to say, the expectations in Philadelphia are low. They failed to win the worst division in the NFL last year, and all other teams are looking to make significant upgrades this offseason. As they replace their head coach, they know that there will be a learning curve this season. Because of that, it makes more sense to stick with Hurts and see if he can overcome adversity. If he can lead the Eagles to victory in 2021, he can do anything they need. He deserves better than Philly, but he is ready for the challenge.
Alabama football fans know that Hurts is ready for the responsibility. We’ll see if the front office agrees and sticks with him as the franchise quarterback.
