Which Alabama football stars shined during the Tide’s Pro Day?
Alabama football hosted the first Pro Day of the 2021 offseason, and many players shined. While legends like DeVonta Smith and Najee Harris chose to sit out, there were still plenty of players proving their skills in Tuscaloosa, and many made quality money with their workouts.
Heading into the Alabama Pro Day, Mac Jones was expected to take center stage. Many believe that he is destined to be a top-10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he still has plenty to prove. This was an opportunity to show off his athleticism, and he did well.
Jones showed off his 32″ vertical and ran somewhere around a 4.8 in the 40-yard dash. Without an NFL Combine, it is impossible to compare his time to other quarterbacks. Still, he showed better athleticism than most would give him credit for.
He also showed his ability to throw in passing drills. This was not a key concern, but he still proved that he is willing to work on anything an NFL team throws at him. He threw over 50 passes in the workout and showed accuracy overall. It wasn’t a perfect day, but he didn’t do anything to hurt himself with the workout.
The winner of the day was easily Patrick Surtain. He ran a 4.42 in the 40-yard dash by ESPN’s clock, and he did well in all of his drills. People knew his technique was solid, but this gave him a chance to show off his pure athleticism. Pairing Surtain’s success with recent injuries to Caleb Farley should guarantee him to be the first corner drafted in the 2021 NFL Draft.
There were also stories surrounding the players who did not participate. Specifically, Najee Harris drove from Dallas last night to make it to Tuscaloosa after his flight was canceled. He did this despite even working out. Harris drove through the night to support his teammates during Alabama football’s workout, and that shows who he is as a person.
Fans will hope to see star players participate in the next Alabama Pro Day, but good news filled this Tuesday as some players worked out.
