Alabama football breaks record in NFL Mock Draft 5.0

23. New York Jets: Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida

New York is taking a risk by drafting Zach Wilson and trading Sam Darnold, but it has a chance to really work. How can they make this happen? For starters, they have to actually support Zach Wilson. After trading up to draft Darnold, the Jets made decisions that stunted his development as a quarterback. They didn’t draft top-level receivers and had a revolving door of head coaches.

With Wilson, the Jets need to prioritize weapons. He is going to take major risks, so he needs players who can make them pay off. Denzel Mims is a quality player, but they still need another receiver to add to the mix. That’s where Toney comes in.

Toney is electric, and he is nearly impossible to bring down with the football in his hands. The Jets can scheme touches for him to give him space, and he will take care of the rest. He can even line up in the backfield at times if necessary.

Toney is also fast enough to take the top off of the defense. Wilson’s best trait is to make a play when things break down by using his electric arm. Toney can give him an option down the field to show this skill.

The Jets still need some offensive line help. They also need a running back, a tight end and plenty of defensive help. With so many picks, they can address those needs down the road. Giving Wilson a weapon should be the first thing on the agenda, and Toney marks that box.
