Alabama football breaks record in NFL Mock Draft 5.0
29. Green Bay Packers: Alex Leatherwood, OT, Alabama
With this pick, Alabama football officially breaks the record for most players drafted in the first round of one NFL draft. Alabama has seen a quarterback, three skill players, a DB and two trench players going in the first round of this mock draft.
That being said, Leatherwood is a sleeper to go in the first round. Many will value other tackles above him and will view him more as a guard prospect. It all depends on what the Packers think Leatherwood can do. Still, it only takes one team to value Leatherwood as a franchise tackle to vault him into the first round.
The Packers need a left tackle to protect Aaron Rodgers, but this pick also helps them build for the future. Green Bay is at a crossroads, and they have to decide if they want to win now or rebuild. Last season, they looked like they wanted to rebuild. However, they were a few plays away from competing for a Super Bowl.
This pick helps them prolong the deadline for that decision. They can improve now with Leatherwood while also adding a cornerstone for the future with Jordan Love.
Green Bay isn’t known for drafting Alabama football players, but this would be a key addition to the offensive line if they go in this direction.
