Alabama football’s report card vs. Florida Gators

Running Backs: B-

Last week, Alabama football saw the depth of the run game. Jase McClellan proved that he is an all-around back, and Trey Sanders showed how good he can be when healthy. That depth will matter as the season progresses and teams get worn down. However, Brian Robinson remains the starter and the main weapon in the running attack.

Robinson had a solid day including some key runs to move the chains. He also scored two total touchdowns against the Gators. Now, it is clear that he and Jase McClellan are the 1-2 punch of the run game.

McClellan didn’t have a great game between the tackles, but he subbed in and impacted the passing game. He shows flashes in every game, and he just needs to work on consistency.

Wide Receivers: C+

Last year, Alabama football had two first-round receivers starting at the beginning of the year. With them gone, we’ve had to wait to see how things will shake out. Now, it is clear that John Metchie is capable of being the guy.

Fans should’ve known this since last year. Metchie had one of the hardest hits of the season when he forced a fumble against a Florida Gator. He brings that strength and aggression every week.

Metchie had a few big plays, but the receivers struggled as a whole. They had to be bailed out by some questionable calls, and they struggled against the aggressive Gator secondary. Bolden also had a terrible drop in the end zone, which hurts the overall grade.
