Alabama football’s report card vs. Tennessee

Offensive Line: B

The offensive line has been a weakness all season, but they’ve seen growth as the year has progressed. Evan Neal might be the best left tackle in college football, and Javion Cohen has stepped up at left guard. There have been concerns at right tackle with Chris Owens, but he showed progress heading into this game.

Cohen had a bad penalty, and there were some times where Bryce Young had to scramble early. To be fair, some of these were because of Bryce Young holding onto the football. Still, there were too many times that Bryce Young had to leave the pocket early.

The offensive line play was better, and it was elite at its best. The only issue is that it wasn’t consistent. On some plays, Bryce Young had all the time in the world to find a target. On others, Young had to run. If Alabama football can get more consistent play from the line, they will be elite.

Defensive Line: A-

The interior of the defensive line has done a decent job of setting the standard for Alabama football. Phil Mathis is one of the most underrated players on this team, and he consistently crashes the pocket. The depth has been a strength as well, so things have been trending up here for Alabama.

The defensive interior dominated this game. The run was taken out of the equation, and Phil Mathis and the other linemen played great. Mathis had a nice sack, and the interior of the line was dominated almost all game.
