As Alabama football fans get ready to see how many Crimson Tide players get drafted later this spring, it has to feel good to know how many of them seem like sure-fire future NFL stars.
That’s even before taking Bryce Young and the fact that he could and should very well be among the first few players taken into account.
Crimson Tide fans know quite a few players could and should rate as among the best players in this year’s draft. Guys like edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. and defensive back Brian Branch aren’t expected to go that much later than their famed quarterback and teammate.
One mock draft earlier this spring thinks that at least seven Alabama football players will get drafted this year. According to USA Today, four Tide players are going to be selected in the first round.
That many ‘Bama players getting that much draft day love isn’t really new. Many Tide players have been selected relatively high in the draft over the years. That’s what happens when your program is as storied as this one. However, every once in a while, the jubilance of the draft day gives way to a powerful sense of disappointment.
It’s never easy to know just how well a player is going to perform in the NFL. Even someone like Bryce Young could turn out to be someone whose talents don’t translate at the highest level. Sadly, Young would hardly be the first ‘Bama quarterback who couldn’t hack it in the NFL. After all, some still wonder whether the last Alabama quarterback to be considered a surefire NFL signal-caller will flame out. 2023 might be a make-or-break year for both Bryce and Mac Jones.
If Young or another highly touted Alabama player does flame out, they certainly won’t be the last. They’ll be in quite the fraternity, as a matter of fact. Of course, Even if Mac Jones does manage to flame out, he probably still won’t go down as one of the biggest draft busts in Alabama football history like this next guy will.
