Alabama's lone 2027 commitment at this point is 5-star composite guard Chase Lumpkin, a combo guard out of Powder Springs, Georgia. Lumpkin was always Nate Oats' top target in this cycle, and he landed a commitment from Lumpkin last month.
Since then, Lumpkin's stock has continued to rise. He had a strong summer on the EYBL circuit, and he recently looked like one of the best players in attendance at the Border League East. Rivals named him the MVP of the event on the heels of a ridiculous performance over the weekend where he exploded for 36 points in 15 minutes:

As one coach put it: “There’s levels…”

Chase Lumpkin is the next great Alabama guard under Nate Oats
Strong guard play is paramount to Oats' system in Tuscaloosa. It's also very, very attractive to elite guards because of the style of play. It's a wide-open system predicated on freedom and pace of play. Lumpkin will fit it like a glove.
He's a combo guard who can push the tempo with the ball in his hands. He's got some natural creativity to his game, but he's also a big-time scorer. He can get buckets at all three levels and has a silky smooth jump shot.
He's also got good positional size at 6-foot-4 with a wingspan measured at 6-foot-8.
It doesn't take a lot of squinting to see the future of the Alabama backcourt. Amari Allen will almost certainly enter the NBA Draft after this season as he hopes to parlay a sophomore leap into the lottery. Aden Holloway still has another season of eligibility and could return for a fifth year with the new NCAA rules, but that's far from a guarantee.
The future is Lumpkin and current true freshman Anderson Diaz. Diaz was a composite 5-star in the 2027 class as well before reclassifying into the 2026 cycle and joining the Crimson Tide immediately. He's expected to play real minutes for Alabama as a freshman when he gets healthy. He suffered an injury during practice and will likely miss the first month of the regular season.
Elite guard play is nothing new under Oats. He turned Kira Lewis, Josh Primo, and Labaron Philon into first-round picks, with Lewis and Primo both going in the lottery. There's also 2nd-rounder JD Davison, and not to mention Mark Sears, who was ultra productive and one of the most decorated players in the history of the program.
Lumpkin and Diaz are next in line.
