Nate Oats had already done excellent work in the 2026 recruiting cycle to sign a borderline Top 10 class for Alabama.
After Anderson Diaz's reclassification from 2027 to 2026, the class is borderline no longer.
Diaz, a composite 5-star in the 2027 cycle, dropped to a 4-star and the No. 55 overall player in the 2026 class by jumping to college a year early, but his addition still sent Alabama's ranking skyrocketing in the composite.
Per the 247 composite, Alabama's four-man haul is now ranked No. 5 in the country.
That ranking now puts it right on par with Oats' best recruiting class at Alabama, which ultimately produced arguably the best team in the history of the program.
Alabama's 2026 recruiting class is now on par with the elite 2022 crop
That 2022 class was headlined by 5-star Brandon Miller, who went on to be one of the best players in college basketball that season and was the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft. It also included another first-round pick in Noah Clowney, a future conference player of the year and 2nd round pick out of Arizona, Jaden Bradley, and a quality college wing in Rylan Griffen.
That's not to mention Mark Sears was Alabama's big Transer Portal addition that offseason.
That freshman class buoyed the best regular season in program history with Alabama winning both the regular season and tournament titles in the SEC and earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, the first 1-seed in program history.
That class finished No. 4 in the composite rankings.
Alabama's 2026 class features two composite 5-stars in Jaxon Richardson and Qayden Samuels, and then two Top 60 players in Tarris Bouie and now Diaz, who was a 5-star in his own right before the reclassification.
That's not to mention NC State transfer Cole Cloer, who was originally a Top 30 player in the 2026 class before he suffered a season-ending injury as a high school senior and reclassified into the 2025 cycle to join the Wolfpack for the spring semester.
If this class is as good as the 2022 class, to go along with the return of star players such as Amari Allen and Aden Holloway, there's plenty of reason for Alabama fans to be optimistic that this team can reach similar heights as the 2022-23 Crimson Tide team did, just perhaps without the upset loss in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Oats has done an incredible job of acquiring talent for this roster. We'll see how it all comes together, but he's once again put together a team capable of competing with the best.
