Alabama’s confidence in Kalen DeBoer obvious with Ohio State series staying put

This is good for college football overall.

For a little while, it seemed like the home-and-home series between Ohio State and Alabama was going to get canceled. With the College Football Playoff implications/worry, it seemed like a no-brainer for both sides. Well, don't tell that to Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Day.

Nope, the two aren't ready to run away from any smoke, as Brett McMurphy broke the news that the series isn't going anywhere, with these two teams ready to dance in 2027 and 2028. With that, it makes one thing pretty dang clear: that the Crimson Tide have all the faith in the world that DeBoer is the right man for the job, even if haters like Paul Finebaum think he's not a good fit. Come on, that's not the case at all.

Alabama and Ohio State keeping their series is a good thing for college football

With the SEC officially moving to a nine-game conference schedule, no one would have blamed the Crimson Tide for canceling things with Ohio State and looking for an easier non-conference opponent. We all saw how things impacted Texas last season, as they missed the CFP and one of their losses was to Ohio State on the road.

That has to be something that DeBoer and athletic director Greg Byrne had on their minds, but the fact that things are NOT going to get canceled is pretty dang sweet. Seeing these two heavyweights go to war in Columbus in 2027 and then in Tuscaloosa in 2028 is something that people in those respective cities already cannot wait for.

And when it comes to DeBoer, it will give him yet another chance to send a message and silence the haters who keep bashing him. From the moment he was hired to take over for the one and only Nick Saban, people have been doubting whether or not he'll get Alabama back to the ultimate level.

In Year 1, the Tide missed out on the CFP, which had plenty of people calling for him to get fired. Following the Week 1 loss to Florida State last season, those calls for him to get canned only came in louder. Bama and DeBoer overcame that rough start, though, reaching the CFP and taking down Oklahoma in the opening round.

The loss to Indiana was a nightmare, but a positive step forward overall was taken for the program throughout 2025. DeBoer is hoping for a return trip to the CFP next season, though it's unknown for sure if Austin Mack or Keelon Russell will be the one to make things happen. Still, DeBoer has proven he's the right man for the job and he'll be able to remind people of that with a win over Ohio State down the road. He'll have two cracks at that, as the Buckeyes are locked in for the 2027 and 2028 schedules. And you know what, we're thrilled that's the case.
